Course Overview & Integration

This course provides young people with the legal literacy needed to safely navigate real-world scenarios, understand their constitutional rights, and communicate constructively with law enforcement. It aims to reduce fear and legal vulnerability while promoting civic responsibility. The curriculum directly combats fear-based avoidance and shrinking. By understanding their rights, participants learn that speaking up with calm, informed confidence prevents them from hiding or staying back when faced with systemic intimidation.

Legal literacy, digital safety awareness, rights-de-escalation tactics, and structural self-defense within the law.

What You Will Learn (Weekly Syllabus)

  • Week 1: Police Encounters and stop-and-search - Analyzing guidelines, and maintaining constructive communication.
  • Week 2: Digital Responsibility and Sexting - Legal boundaries of digital media and criminal implications of youth-produced content.
  • Week 3: Joint Enterprise and Group Criminality - Legal doctrine of joint enterprise and proximity to criminal acts.
  • Week 4: Civil Liberties, Legal Aid, and Advocacy - Accessing legal aid, steps during an arrest, and utilizing advisory services.

Practical Application & Assessment

Drafting a personalized 'My Legal Rights Pocket Guide' and safety contact card. Participation in interactive scenario testing and a legal rights quiz.
